Cross-laminated Timber as a Solution to Heavy Machinery Accessibility in Forests

The CLT Forest Project aims to develop a solution to the mobility challenges of heavy machinery in low load-bearing conditions by using cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels.

MEBIP – Further Processing of Forest Bioeconomy Residues into High Value Products

The MEBIP project develops process solutions for higher value-added products that enhance the utilisation potential of side streams generated in wood-based biorefining, such as bark, sawdust, branches, and needles.

Climate Change Adaptation of Northern Forests

The overall objective of the project is to develop new forest damaging agent prevention tools and risk management methods to support and ensure livelihood in Aurora regions in relation to forests. By decreasing the effect of damaging agents and developing new methods, the region’s economy and vitality are improved.

Adaptation of Reindeer Husbandry to
Climate change – Solutions to Feeding Challenges

The aim of the project is to investigate whether a high concentrate feed ration causes a low-grade inflammatory state in reindeer, as assumed. In addition, the project seeks to determine a safe level of concentrate feeding that supports reindeer welfare while avoiding acidosis and its related health issues.

Implementing Circular Economy Practices in Reindeer Slaughtering

The aim of the project is to support the economic and environmental sustainability of reindeer husbandry by creating a circular economy roadmap for the sector and developing circular economy tools for reindeer slaughterhouses and meat cutting facilities to assess and improve practical operations.

From Producer to Multiskilled Professional – Processing and Marketing of Reindeer Hides

The project aims to promote a more business-oriented and continuously improving approach to the production and sale of hides. It seeks to enhance, at multiple levels, the skills of slaughterhouses, reindeer herding cooperatives, and individual reindeer owners in trading as well as the potential pre-processing and further refining of hides.

Introducing New Technology to Farms through Peer Experiences and Small Groups

The aim of the project is to promote the smooth adoption and effective use of new technologies, such as digital systems and tools, on farms across the country, particularly through the sharing of encouraging peer experiences within regional small groups.

Nourishment for Life – Naturally from Lapland

The project aims to enhance collaboration between food and natural products companies and to strengthen their capacity to utilise available networks and funding opportunities both nationally and internationally. Additionally, the project will foster closer cooperation among regional project actors through regular meetings, communication, and the use of a project registry.

LisäarvoBAR – Increasing the Value of Biomaterials in the Arctic Natural Products Sector

The project develops the technological capabilities of natural products companies to fully utilise raw materials through extraction and separation processes. Progressing from research and company workshops to product pilots, the project aims for companies to produce new bio-based products and prototypes for the market in the future.

The aim of the project is to assess the success of vertical cultivation of selected wild plants and to diversify the cultivation methods used in vertical farming.

EVECSA – European Vocational Excellence for Climate Smart Agriculture

The goal of the project is to enhance vocational training in agriculture to promote sustainable practices and empower future professionals through the establishment of Centers of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs). This initiative enables agricultural vocational education and training (agro-VET) to spearhead the transition to Climate-Smart Agriculture.

Climate-Smart Food via Cross-Border Cooperation

The ClimateFood project aims to promote climate-smart business practices throughout the entire food production chain in Northern Finland and Northern Sweden.

AGRARSENSE – Smart, Digitalized Components and System for Data-Based Agriculture and Forestry

AGRARSENSE will focus on developing European SoA technologies for future agricultural needs, encompassing various agricultural and forestry related challenges around them, as well as the enabling technologies of ICT infrastructure and electronics hardware that will be critical for future business and economic needs.

Artisan food – AITO O ÄKTA

The project aims to raise awareness among consumers, food entrepreneurs, and aspiring entrepreneurs about artisan food and its related opportunities. It promotes the development of artisan food entrepreneurship and increases knowledge about certification possibilities.

Lapland Local Meat – Produced in Lapland, Enjoyed in Lapland

Lapland Local Meat is a local-level training project that provides practical solutions to the challenges of direct sales for farms that are developing their operations. The project’s workshops explore alternatives for various regional local meat supply chains, ensuring delivery reliability and meeting regional demand.

Replacement of Peat with Hemp

The project produces information about the possibilities of using hemp, reed canary grass and other similar plants as peat substituting raw materials for industry. The project investigates the suitability of hemp and industrial sidestreams for energy pellets, insulating materials and culture media – while not forgetting the commercial viability of the production.

Micro-Credentials Supporting Working
Life

The project trains staff from universities of applied sciences to implement micro-credentials. The project investigates collaboration with working life in relation to micro-credentials and models various providing methods, quality management, and academic administration for them.

GENGREEN – Closing the Small-Business and Gender Gap 

The aim of the GENGREEN project is to support the development of sustainable (female) entrepreneurship, particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises in South and Central Ostrobothnia, Lapland, Norrbotten, Troms, and Finnmark.
